The BIG cross

I've been looking through the Bible for passages to go with the different panels of the cross that will be built on the chancel. Here are some to get us started.

INRI (Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews) — John 19:19
Thorns — Matt 27:29/Mark 15:17/John 19:2.5) and Gen 3:18; Is 7:23; Matt 13:22
Palms — John 12:13 and Lev 23:40; Rev 7:9
Cup — Matt 26:39/Mark 14:36/Luke 22:42 and Is 51:17, 22; Jer 25:15 (and two vinegar passages Ps 75:8; 69:21)
Nails/feet — No actual reference to the nails in the gospel accounts; Is 52:7 (beautiful feet); Ps 22:16 (pierced feet and hands); Is 53:5 (pierced for our transgressions); Zech 12:10 (mourn for the One they pierced)
Hands (two panels) — Is 49:16 and Ps 22:16 (also above)

That's what I have so far to get us started.

Also, let's change some of the songs in Lent to be "cross" songs. They don't all need to be. But the songs earlier in the service when we'll be doing our Lenten readings and confession should pull from the "Take up your cross and follow me" theme.
